How to use Unit Converter

Select a category, choose the "From unit" and "To unit", then enter a number. The result updates in real time. Press the ⇄ button to instantly swap the From and To units. Not sure where to start? Click one of the "Examples (click to try)" chips above the value field — it sets the category, units, and number for you and shows the result right away.

Worked example: Pick the "Length" category, set the From unit to "Mile" and the To unit to "Kilometer", then type 1 in the value field. The result shows 1.609344 (1 mile = 1.609 km). Change the value to 3 and it updates in place to 4.828032 — no Enter key needed.

Speed tip: Conversion runs live on every keystroke, so there's no button to press. Just edit the value and the result follows along, and changing a unit recalculates instantly.

What are tsubo, jo and monme?

Three of the units here come from Japan's traditional system and still show up in everyday Japanese life. Tsubo () is the standard unit for floor area and land — 1 tsubo ≈ 3.306 m² (traditionally about two tatami mats), so apartment listings and house plans are usually quoted in tsubo. Jo () is literally one tatami mat; room sizes are commonly given as "6 jo" rather than in square meters. This tool uses the Edo-size mat (1 jo = 1.5488 m², i.e. 176 cm × 88 cm), which varies a little by region. Monme () is a traditional weight of 3.75 g, still used for pearls and some wholesale goods. Convert any of them to metric to get an intuitive feel for the size or weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my input data sent to a server?
No. All conversion processing happens entirely in your browser. Your input values and results are never transmitted to or stored on any server, so you can use this tool with confidence.
How does the temperature conversion work?
The tool supports three temperature scales: Celsius (℃), Fahrenheit (℉), and Kelvin (K). Celsius to Fahrenheit uses the formula ℉ = ℃ × 9/5 + 32, and Celsius to Kelvin uses K = ℃ + 273.15.
Does the data size converter use 1 KB = 1000 B or 1024 B?
This tool uses 1 KB = 1024 bytes (binary standard), which matches how computers actually store data internally. This differs from the 1 KB = 1000 B convention used by some storage manufacturers.
