Rice Cup & Water Calculator
Calculate rice and water amounts from go (ๅ) and firmness (firm/normal/soft). It also shows grams, water (ml), cooked yield and rough servings together. Everything stays in your browser.
| Rice (approx. weight) | โ |

| Water | โ |
| Cooked yield (approx.) | โ |

How to use
Enter the number of go or pick an example chip (1/2/3 go). Choose firmness (normal/firm/soft) and the rice (ml and g), water (ml), cooked weight and rough serving count all update together. For new-crop or rinse-free rice, nudge the firmness one step.
What is a go (ๅ)?
In Japan, uncooked rice is measured by volume in go (ๅ), not by weight. One go is 180 ml โ the size of the plastic cup that comes with every rice cooker โ so "2 go" means two level cups. This is smaller than the 240 ml US cup, and rice-cooker water lines are marked by go as well. This calculator uses the Japanese go, sets water to the same volume as the rice (the usual rice-to-water starting point), then adjusts it up or down for the firmness you want.
Worked examples
- 1 go, normal โ 180 ml rice (โ150 g) / 180 ml water / โ330 g cooked / 1โ2 servings
- 2 go, normal โ 360 ml rice (โ300 g) / 360 ml water / โ660 g cooked / 2โ4 servings
- 3 go, firm (0.9) โ 540 ml rice / 486 ml water (less than normal for a firmer bite)
- 2 go, soft (1.1) โ 360 ml rice / 396 ml water (for rinse-free rice or softer texture)
Adjust for the Rice and Cooker
The displayed water amount is a starting point for ordinary white rice. Rinse-free rice, new-crop rice, aged rice, brown rice, mixed rice, and pre-soaked rice can need different water. If the cooker provides fill lines or a dedicated program, follow its manual and measuring cup first.
Serving counts depend on bowl size and appetite and are not a nutritional recommendation. Use the Recipe Scaler when resizing a complete meal.
