Add Page Numbers to PDF
Add page numbers to every page of a PDF. Choose the position, format and start number. Loading and numbering both happen entirely in your browser, so you can handle confidential documents without ever uploading them.
Drag & drop a PDF, or click to choose
Load one PDF. It is processed on your device only and never leaves it.
How to add page numbers
Load one PDF, choose the position, format and start number, and press the button. Everything is processed on your device, so your file is never sent anywhere.
- Load a PDF: drop it on the box or click to choose.
- Choose the look: position (top/bottom × left/center/right), format (
1/1 / 10/- 1 -), start page, and start number. - Add & download: a numbered PDF is saved (named
originalname_numbered.pdf).
Handy for
- Adding running numbers to meeting or handout material for easy reference
- Paginating a manuscript that has no numbers before printing or submission
- Skipping a cover and starting the count partway through the document (via start page)
Numbers are drawn in black at 11pt using the standard Helvetica font. If the PDF already has printed numbers they may overlap, so adjust the position. Password-protected or corrupted PDFs may fail to load.
FAQ
Are my PDFs sent to a server?
No. Loading and numbering both happen entirely in your browser (on your device), and your PDFs are never transmitted to or stored on any server. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
Can I choose the position and format?
Yes. Pick one of six positions (top or bottom, left, center or right) and a format among 1, 1 / 10, and - 1 -. Use Start on page to skip a cover and begin numbering later, and Start number to set the number on that first numbered page (for example, 1 on page 3).
Will it clash with existing page numbers?
This tool draws a new number on top. If the PDF already has printed numbers, both will show, so choose a position that doesn't overlap, or make sure the original has none first.
